The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries throughout World War II. The Spitfire continued to be used as a front line fighter and in secondary roles into the 1950s. It was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft and was the only British fighter in production throughout the war.

"The Me-109 Messerschmitt was designed by Willy Messerschmitt and was originally powered by a Rolls-Royce Kestrel V engine. It was one of the first true modern fighters of the era. The prototype Me-109 first flew in 1935 and that same year, the Me-109 won a fighter competition. The Me-109B and C models achieved great success in Spain with the Legion Condor's fighter unit. The progressive development in the pre-war years resulted in a more powerful and heavier armed versions of the ME-109. The Me-109 was flown by the three top-scoring fighter aces of World War II including Gunther Rall, with 275 victories. Bf 109 was the official designation, since its design was sent in by the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke company and was used extensively in all official German documents dealing with this aircraft. After July 1938, the company was renamed as Messerschmitt AG, the time when Erhard Milch finally allowed Willy Messerschmitt to acquire the company. The ""Me"" designation and mdash (except those already assigned with the Bf prefix) were to be carried by all Messerchmitt aircraft since then. The Me-109 has basically the smallest airframe that Willy Messerschmitt attached to the most powerful engine. The Me-109 remained a formidable air superiority fighter throughout World War II. "

"The F-106 Delta Dart is an all weather interceptor aircraft for the United States Air Force. The F-106 is an advanced derivative of the F-102 Delta Dagger (F-102B). On June 1956, the F-106 featured many designs and modifications and was redesignated as the F-106. In 1957, after some minor redesign of the F-106, a new aircraft designated as the F-106A were delivered to 15 fighter interceptor squadrons. The F-106 served in the continental USA, Alaska and Iceland, as well as brief periods in Germany and South Korea. The F-86 was the second highest sequentially numbered P/F aircraft to enter service under the old number sequence (the F-111 was the highest and its official name, the ""Delta Dart"" was rarely used and the aircraft was known as ""Six"". In 1972, some F-106As were upgraded in Project Six Shooter. The F-106A has a crew of 1. It has a maximum speed of Mach 2.3 and a range of 1,800 mi. The F-106A has one 20 mm M61 Vulcan gatling gun. In 1981, the F-15A replaced the F-106 and it remained in service in various USAF and ANG units until 1988. In 1986, many of the surviving aircraft were converted into drones and were used for target practice. Only few F-106s were retained by the NASA for test purposes. "

"In 1938, when the United States Navy (USN) published a requirement for a new carrier aircraft that could match the performance of the best land and carrier-based fighter planes, the result was the F4U Corsair. Designed by Rex Buren Beisel and manufactured by Chance Vought, it was made to carry the most powerful engine and largest diameter propeller ever built at that time. It took its maiden flight on May 1940, and although designed as a carrier fighter for the USN, concerns about its landing and visibility characteristics led it to be used initially by the United States Marine Corps (USMC), which operated on land-based runways. In March 1943, the Marines introduced the aircraft to its debut combat. Eventually it was put into service with the USN in January 1944, after the British proved that it was able to operate safely from carriers. The plane was not slow to prove its fighting ability and succeeded in gunning down 2,140 enemy aircraft while losing only 189 F4U's during the Second World War. Consequently, 24 Corsair pilots became air aces. The Corsair was given the nicknames “The Sweetheart of the Marianas” and “The Angel of Okinawa” by allied ground forces. The Japanese troops dubbed it “Whistling Death” because of the sound that it made during dive-bombing or strafing runs. "
