Once Frodo volunteers to take the Ring into Mordor and destroy it, Sam does not hesitate to follow his master. With the Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo and Sam begin the long, perilous journey. When the Fellowship is broken and scattered, Sam alone remains with Frodo, and together, but not alone, the two young hobbits continue their quest toward Mount Doom to destroy the evil ring and end Saurons reign over Middle-earth.

A descendant of the lost line of the ancient kings of Men, Aragorn is fated to one day claim the empty throne of Gondor. Few know his secret heritage and destiny, amongst them the wizard Gandalf and the elf-lord Elrond, and some of the Dúnedain, better known as Rangers, who follow him. At Gandalf's advice, Aragorn and his followers take up the defense of the Shire, a small land full of very small people known as Hobbits, and he became known among the peoples just outside the Shire's borders as Strider.

Compelled by a dream and the request of his father, Boromir, heir to the stewardship of Gondor and the finest warrior of the realm, travels the long and weary road to the Elven haven of Rivendell. In the halls of the Lord Elrond, Boromir seeks answers to the riddles of his dream amid the collected relics of ages past and the quiet wisdom of the Elves. His appearance is timely, for Elrond has called a great meeting, attended by emissaries from all the free peoples of Middle-earth, there to discuss the threat of Mordor and the question of the Dark Lord Sauron's lost treasure.
At the Council it is learned that the One Ring, the weapon of the enemy, has been found, but disagreement over what to do with it ignites angry debate. To Boromir's mind, the path is clear; the Ring is a gift, a mighty boon for the West, which might be wielded to thwart and destroy the invading armies of Mordor. Leading his people in countless battles against Orcs and their allies, Boromir knows well the cost of their long defense in lives. Many warriors and friends has he lost, and the empire he stands to inherit is undermined by division and doubt. The One Ring would be a rallying point for his people, a turning of the tide that would at last halt the long, slow defeat and bring victory and glory to Gondor. More than this, the Ring itself calls to him; a great and noble destiny promised and proffered, his for the taking.
But the Council decides not to use the Ring, instead choosing to destroy it in the hope of thereby undoing the power of the Dark Lord. It is a quest of folly to Boromir, suicidal and ultimately vain, but abide by the decision of the Wise he does, swearing himself to the protection of the Ringbearer and joining the small company that must insure his success. Boromir is noble and brave, and willing to suffer injury and death in the service of freedom, but ever the thought of the Ring and its power, so foolishly refused, gnaws at him, invading his waking thoughts and occupying his dreams. Is this truly a gift to be scorned, or does the hope of Gondor's deliverance lie but a few feet from his grasp?

An Elf prince from the forest kingdom of Mirkwood, Legolas joined the Fellowship as a representative of his people, and vowed to protect Frodo in his quest through the power of his mighty bow. Legolas possesses the keen eyesight and sharp ears characteristic of his race. His endurance, keen sight, and fighting skills were of great help to the Fellowship, but his loyalty and friendship were even greater assets to his companions. Legolas grew fond of the Hobbits and he loved and supported Aragorn, but the strongest bond he formed was his unlikely friendship with Gimli the dwarf.

The second son of the Steward of Gondor, Faramir is akin to a prince in his realm and for him should be all the privileges and joys of a young man born to such high station. Strong and nimble, Faramir was a bright pupil and, as a man, he is as swift in thought as he is with a blade. As a captain in the Rangers of Gondor, he leads men in battle against the dark threat of Mordor and keeps the lands of Ithilien safe for the people. Yet this brave son of Gondor bears a wound upon his heart that was left by no Orc blade or the arrow of any fallen man of the South. Rather, upon Faramir's spirit resides the scar of a far keener weapon, the lethal edge of his grim father's scorn.
The entrusted lord of Minas Tirith and all Gondor in the absence of a King, Denethor is a hard, proud man who idolizes his oldest son Boromir. Little time does the Steward have for his second son, despite what valor he might show and what successes he might win in his father's name. Denethor's gaze cannot perceive the nobility in any child of his own, save his oldest and dearest, and ever has Faramir walked in the long shadow of his brother. Between the sons, there is great love, for they have much in common and Boromir does not share his father's blindness for Faramir's qualities. Even so, only Denethor has the power to put right this injustice, and during the War of the Ring, his distraction only grows.
With Boromir gone upon an errand of great import, the protection of the realm falls by default to Faramir, though his father would surely choose another, had he such an option. In this time the bright son shows his bravery and foresight time and again, not least of all when he permits Frodo, bearer of the One Ring, to go in peace with the very treasure his father seeks. Though it will prove to have been the only wise choice, with this act Faramir's esteem in his father's eyes falls to a new low, and the flawed old man orders him to a task for which no hope of success can be found and which will almost certainly bring his death. His heart closed and cold, Denethor dwells solely upon the uncertain fate of his first son, while he sends his last to his doom.

As a member of the Istari, the ancient and powerful Gandalf the Grey is sent to Middle-earth to orchestrate the forces of light against the growing darkness. Gandalf is a trusted ally and provides wise counsel to the many peoples of Middle-earth. First to discover the true nature of Bilbo's Ring, Gandalf guides Bilbo's heir, Frodo Baggins, to Rivendell. There, Frodo takes up the responsibility for the Ring's destruction. Guide and mentor to Frodo in his quest, Gandalf leads the Fellowship of the Ring on the path to the fires of Mount Doom.
As the Fellowship of the Ring ventures deep within the Mines of Moria, they are confronted by one of the most powerful and evil beings in all of Middle-earth, a Balrog. Narrowly making their way across a vast chasm and near to the exit from Moria, the fellowship is overtaken by the beast of shadow and flame. Only the magic and might of Gandalf the Grey is strong enough to save Frodo and his companions. Standing firm in the path of danger, the noble wizard fends off the Balrog as the others escape certain death. The Balrog falls deep into the mines, and though he saves the fellowship, Gandalf is not able to escape the fiery whip of the Balrog. Urging Frodo and the Fellowship to carry on, Gandalf the Grey falls into the abyss.
Though his mortal body is sacrificed, Gandalf the Grey is strong in spirit, deep in wisdom, and skilled in magic. His words as Frodo's friend and mentor continue to guide Frodo as the Fellowship of the Ring ventures to save Middle-earth. His mission to unite the forces of the light is left unfinished, but hope lives on with Frodo and Aragorn.

Backstory:
The dreaded bounty hunter Bossk's reputation as a killer began at birth, when he clawed his way out of his own egg and, moments later, devoured each and every one of his unhatched siblings. This display of savage dominance impressed Bossk's father and earned him his name, which, in his native Trandoshan, translates to, 'devours his prey.'
As he matured, Bossk developed a reputation for slaughtering and skinning Wookiees a Trandoshan tradition that threw him head-to-head with Chewbacca and Han Solo on several occasions. Their continued run-ins developed into a long-standing rivalry, and when he was approached by Darth Vader to hunt down and capture the Millenium Falcon, Bossk eagerly accepted the opportunity. That particular bounty was denied to Bossk, however, when Han Solo and his friends were tracked by Boba Fett to Bespin's Cloud City after the Battle of Hoth.
Despite this significant loss, his tenure as a bounty hunter was mostly successful, spanning the time period from the Clone Wars and the Dark Times, all the way through the Rebellion and beyond. A true renegade, Bossk's lengthy career found him toe-to-toe with Jabba the Hutt, the Galactic Empire, the Old Republic, and the Jedi Order. Bossk eventually even killed and devoured his own father for leadership of the Bounty Hunter's Guild.
