Soil Ghosts
The Soil Ghosts are a mutant race of desert nomads who trace their origins to the fallen Estancian Empire. Some scholars speculate that in addition to acid rains and radioactive pollution, Soil Ghost mutations also arose from the Estancian government's experimental pesticide Wonderlizer, hastily developed plague vaccines and residues from Omanga's biochemical attack.
Though little is known about these reclusive mutants, governments typically brand them as dangerous beasts and scapegoat them for deficiencies wrought by their own corrupt regimes. Gray Zone merchants, on the other hand, frequently speak of trading with gentle tribesmen devout in their faith to pacifist spirituality. Wandering the Estancia Gray Zone in dozens of nomadic tribes, Soil Ghosts trek across the barren deserts, sowing mysterious seedlings one dune after another to no discernible effect. Nothing has ever sprouted from their efforts, yet they persist religiously with unflinching determination, all the while assembling innovative vehicles and SAs from scrap materials scavenged across the Gray Zones.
Nazar
Nazar is Koren's chief advisor and head of the Endizars, the four "Spiritual Pillars" of the Sahai tribe. A calculating tactician and cunning warrior, Nazar is responsible for creating many formidable Soil Ghost battle formations and strategies. Only a handful of Soil Ghosts are old enough to remember that before Estancia's fall and his own mutation, Nazar was once a mutant-hunting officer of the Estancian army.
Golgo
A rare newborn from the heavily mutated Corabas tribe, Golgo's parents entrusted him to Chief Koren's care to spare him from the Corabas' extremist leaders. Showing great interest in technology and gadgets, he mastered his superhuman left arm under Nazar's mentorship and became a skilled metalsmith. Though a ferocious giant on the battlefield, Golgo is actually a gentle soul who humors the many children hanging around his forge.

Chief Koren
Time-tested by decades of grueling hardship, Chief Koren guides his fellow Sahai tribesmen with a firm but gentle hand. As one of the first Soil Ghost mutants, he bears haunting memories of the early anti-mutant purges. Koren's ferocity mellowed with age, and today the battle-seasoned rebel is a diplomatic elder who prepares for the worst but preaches for peace.
Doeg
Doeg is a remarkable navigator who never fails to find untapped resources. Though a heartthrob among the Soil Ghost maidens, he prefers the company of animals over other tribesmen - casting a spell over wildlife with his sweet harmonica. The only thing Doeg excels more at than music is hunting - claiming the Horn of the Ancient during an inter-tribal ritual contest.

Gugees are gentle mutant camelids whose name derives from the sounds they make. Like the Soil Ghosts, they arose after the destruction and desertification of Estancia. Wild gugees are proficient in locating water sources, hence nomadic Soil Ghosts often chart their courses after their tracks. Many tribes also domesticate gugees for agriculture and transportation.
Gugee wool is soft and oily, protecting them from hot temperatures and dehydration. Soil Ghosts trim gugee wool to weave into coats, which young adults wear at coming-of-age ceremonies. After gugees pass away, Soil Ghosts will turn their bodies into various crafts. Gugee horns, when grinded into powder and consumed, produce strong medicinal reactions, and can enhance the effects of other drugs. In tribes with scarce medical resources, gugee horn powder will not be sold to outsiders, but retained for local medical use. Wine made from gugee blood is also a prized health supplement, enjoyed only during the sacrificial month.
Gugee products are popular throughout the world and abundant in Gray Zone black markets. This attracts many poachers to the desert, and some well-equipped poachers even raid Soil Ghost villages. Soil Ghosts execute poachers whenever they catch them, and scatter their bodies to the edge of the desert as a warning to others.
