One of the most fearsome weapons of war is the flamethrower, which propelled a deadly jet of flame against enemy positions such as dugouts and buildings. Germany based its WWII flamethrowers on those introduced in 1918, and one of the standard infantry types was the Flammenwerfer 35. Weighing 35.8kg, it was easily operated by one soldier. Carried on the operator’s back, the 11.8-litre main fuel tank contained Flammöl 19, which was essentially petrol mixed with tar to thicken it, this being mixed with nitrogen propellant when fired. The igniter/torch offered a total of 10 seconds of use, and the weapon’s effective range was 25m. The Flammenwerfer 35 was produced until 1941, at which time the Flammenwerfer 41 began to replace it.
Dragon has made available a 1/6 scale model kits of this particularly fearsome German weapon. The flamethrower kit fits together extremely accurately, and the components combine to accurately depict the Flammenwerfer 35. Details such as the on/off valve assembly, the igniter, the fuel tank and harness are all fully detailed. This flamethrower could easily be added to a suitable 1/6 scale action figure donor, and it’s sure to be a scorching item in Dragon’s collection of 1/6 scale weapon systems!
