The 1/6 model kit shows a vehicle heavily modified for desert operations by the SAS. It is heavily loaded with jerry cans containing spare fuel and water to allow reconnaissance missions deep behind the frontlines. For operations in the hot climate, the grill has been removed and a water condenser fitted. The SAS vehicle is also heavily armed with fast-firing Vickers K machine guns. Both a single Vickers K weapon and a twin-mount machine-gun are fitted ready for use against ground or aerial targets. This exciting kit is accurate in every detail, and it’s ready to range widely across the sandy desert terrain of North Africa!

The launch of Dragon’s impressive fully built-up 1/6 scale Panzer II tank created a buzz of attention worldwide. This massive Panzer II was part of Dragon’s 1/6 scale Action Figure collection, and it was significant because it was the first ever tank in the lineup. Now Dragon has followed it up with a separate model kit version of this Panzer II made to the same enormous scale. The result is one of Dragon’s biggest ever model kits! The actual tank variant is a Panzer II Ausf.B, which was produced by Germany from December 1937 through to June 1938. The 8.9-ton tank was a mere 4.81m long, and it was operated by a crew of three. In the turret was a 20mm KwK.30 cannon and a 7.92mm MG34 machine gun. The Panzer II was at the forefront of the German invasion of Poland in 1939, and it also featured in the Blitzkrieg campaign against France and the Low Countries in 1940.
The tank kit is an awesome size in this scale! Elements are accurately represented, and building a model in this scale presents a whole new experience for model-makers. Take the track links, for example. Owners can assemble the individual track links one by one with the provided metal pins, just as occurred on the original tank. Even though the original tank was diminutive in size, this model built to exact 1/6 scale poses a significant presence. Appropriate crew figures from Dragon’s extensive Action Figure range can also be matched with this tank. The turret rotates, the gun elevates and depresses, and in addition, the commander’s hatch in the turret can open to accommodate a tank crewman in the hatch. Modelers will certainly want to clear space on their display shelves to park this scintillating Panzer II Ausf.B model kit!

The 60mm M2 mortar derived from the larger 81mm M1 mortar, and was designed to bridge the gap between the latter and hand grenades. The M2 mortar actually served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as well as in WWII. Originally designed by the Frenchman Edgar Brandt, the first mortars were delivered to the US Army in January 1940. The M2 weighed 19.05kg and was capable of lobbing a shell out to a maximum range of 1815m. The mortar model is accompanied by a .30-cal M2 Garand rifle, a weapon that General George S. Patton described as “the greatest battle implement ever devised.” It was the first semi-automatic rifle to equip an army in the world when it officially entered American service in 1936. Used by US Army and Marine Corps troops in WWII and Korea, it had a maximum effective range of 402m and was fed from an 8-round internal clip. Both the mortar and rifle models are ready for immediate assembly, with their parts separation mimicking those of the original weapons. They are fully detailed and components can disassemble just like the real thing. For those modelers who have a penchant for famous American military weapons, this set offers double appeal.
