Mattel has made the impossible happen, and made dreams of collectors worldwide come true. They finally revealed their plan to include Fearless Photog in the upcoming 30th anniversary Masters of the Universe Classics releases. The Fearless Photog is a legend among Masters of the Universe fans, a character lost to the ages, but one which is about to make a triumphant return.

If you're unfamiliar with the legend of Fearless Photog, then you are in for a treat. Over 25 years ago, Mattel hosted a contest in which kids could submit a design for a brand new Masters of the Universe character, promising to produce and release that design as an actual figure. It was a great idea and a true service to the fans of the line. Creative young minds all over the country suddenly had the Power of Grayskull thrown into their hands, and Mattel had the chance to do something great.

A young man named Nathan Bitner won the contest, submitting the odd, but visually striking design for Fearless Photog. He also took home a hefty scholarship and prize package in the process. Unfortunately Mattel never followed through with their promise, due to waning interest in the line a bevy of other problems. So Fearless Photog remained unproduced and Nathan Bitner was left waiting to see his design realized in plastic. That is, until now.

The Packaging
The Star Sisters come in a large window box with the standard artwork that has graced the packaging of all MOTUC products to date. Despite the bright colors and generous use of glitter, the Sisters appear to be right at home between the Masters of the Universe Classics and Princess of Power logos, surrounded by the green bricks of Castle Grayskull.

Starla
Known as the “Bright and Beautiful Leader,” Starla lives up to her shining reputation with this MOTUC incarnation. Beautifully sculpted and painted, the contrast of bright yellows and deep reds make Starla the standout sister here. Details such as powder blue eye shadow that perfectly complements her orange skirt, and the subtle shading throughout the figure’s paint application, bring this sister to life in a way that is both bold and beautiful. Starla comes with a translucent yellow star staff and her loyal companion Glory Bird.

Jewelstar
Nicknamed “Hidden Beauty,” Jewelstar’s unproduced 1987 prototype included a distinctive action feature that would’ve allowed the doll to transform into a jewel. Though Mattel decided not to include the action feature for her MOTUC incarnation, the company still went the extra mile to make Jewelstar feel like a unique figure. Translucent plastic was used on the jewel-shaped armor that frames the soft features of her face and covers her knees, forearms, and upper back. The colors and shading used on Jewelstar’s cape give the illusion of an iridescent sheen and is another detail that makes this sister feel like unique addition to the MOTUC line. Jewelstar includes a pink glitter-infused translucent star staff as well.

Tallstar
Like her sister Jewelstar, Tallstar’s 1987 counterpart would have also included an action feature. Along with her neck, this Star Sister’s legs and arms would have been extendable body parts providing added play value to the “Lovely Lookout.” In order to mimic the classic action feature, Mattel has included arm, leg and neck extensions for the MOTUC version of Tallstar. Extensions simply snap into articulated joints giving the figure an approximate inch of added height. The figure’s detailed sculpt and placement of the extensions make the “stretchable” body parts appear like seamless additions and are a clever way to visually incorporate Tallstar’s stretching powers. While Tallstar’s costume won’t be winning any fashion awards, the figure’s detailed paint application is a thing of beauty from heels to hair. Tallstar also comes with an orange version of the same star staff included with her sisters.

If any obstacles block the victim from being dragged to the Smoker, he will choke his target instead.

The Smoker has been faithfully recreated, standing upon some urban destruction, scouting the area for survivors with which to attack.

An anachronistic twelve-million-year-old human skull has been discovered by archaeologists and is now being used by Professor Fendelman in his time scanner experiments at Fetch Priory in contemporary England. The skull is actually an artifact of the Fendahl, an ancient creature that feeds on the life force of others.

Drawn by the operation of the scanner, the Fourth Doctor and Leela arrive as the experiments reach a peak. The skull is exerting an influence over the mind of Thea Ransome, one of the scientists in Fendelman's team, and glowing with power each time the scanner is activated. Thea is eventually transformed into the Fendahl core, and a group of acolytes assembled by Maximillian Stael - another of Fendelman's team, who is trying to harness the creature's power for his own ends - are converted into snake-like Fendahleen.

The Doctor shows the remaining scientist, Adam Colby, and two locals, Martha Tyler and her son Jack, how to defend themselves against the Fendahleen using rock salt. By activating the scanner once more, he triggers an implosion that destroys both the Priory and the Fendahl core.
